APPLICATIONS TO GRADUATE PROGRAMS
All applications to the Graduate School of Informatics must be made both on-line and in hard copy. Before proceeding to on-line application, please read the information provided below.
What to do before starting on-line application
If you want to finish your application in one session , make sure that you have the documents specified below at hand. Please note that it is not necessary to finish your application in one session. You may start your session now and return to the program as frequently as necessary. If you are planning to make multiple sessions make sure that you leave the program by pressing EXIT. DO NOT PRESS the FREEZE button for this purpose as this finalizes your application.
You should press the FREEZE button after checking that your application is complete and all the information is correct.
It is recommended that you have the following documents before starting your session.
Obtain a printout of instructions for on-line applications
Before you start your session make sure that you have the following documents with you:
- Your identity card
- Your GRE/LES application or score report
( Exemption from GRE/LES is possible in special cases. These cover applications from those countries where there is no access to ETS , or if the applicant can not take such exams because of deficiency in English. In such cases in lieu of GRE you should obtain Statement of rank from your Bachelor's Degree Institution. The statement of rank should indicate number of students graduated within that year and the rank the applicant has obtained among these graduates. Normally the statement should refer to University as whole . If this not possible then it should be faculty, school or department based, i.e. It should based on as large a graduate population as possible .)
- TOEFL( or its equivalent ) application or score report
If you do not have any valid English Exam Score already, apply to graduate and English proficiency exams. Information regarding when and how to apply to these exams are given from this link.
- Transcript(s) (notarized or attested)
- Obtain transcript(s) , notarized or attested, concerning your undergraduate and, if any, graduate study ( in progress or completed) you have been undertaking. If you have completed your study, you should obtain two copies of transcript(s) ( one copy is sufficient for application, the other copy is required during registration if you are accepted to the program).
- Two letters of recommendation
- Obtain two reference letters; for this purpose first download the related form by clicking reference document.
- An E-mail account
- If you do not have an e-mail address already, apply to e-mail address providers on the internet. Make sure that the address you obtain in such a way remains valid for at least 6 months.
- Receipt for application fee
- For the application fee, follow the instructions given at this link
- Document(s) indicating your source of support (if needed)
- Printout of instructions for on-line application
What to do after the on-line application
Printing the application form:
After pressing the FREEZE button, the form that you would obtain is the FINAL
COPY. Using your browser's print facility obtain a printout of this
form. Affix your photograph, put you initials at each page and sign the
last page of the printout.
Mailing the form and documents to be attached:
A-The following documents should be attached to your application form.
- Transcript(s) one copy notarized or attested
- GRE score report or application form or
Statement of Rank from Bachelors Degree Institution
- English Proficiency (TOEFL or its equivalent) score report or
application form
- Two letters of recommendation
- Document(s) indicating your source of support (if needed)
- Application Fee( information regarding the
application fee is given at Fee Document
)depending on your case you may also need to
attach the following(s)
- List of courses in progress (if you had not finished your study at the time of application)
- If you have a scholarship letter or document indicating the level and duration of your support
B- Use a suitably sized envelope and
place your application form together with documents specified above.
Make sure that you print your name and program you applied for in
the upper left corner, The envelope should addressed to

Please note that application materials once submitted will not be returned to you. So
you should keep extra copies of all documents your are sending.
When your application material is received, this will be acknowledged within 15 days via an e-mail. If you do not receive such a
mail within a month please contact metuii@ii.metu.edu.tr

Having finished your session(s), press CHECK to see that all information is correct and no item is omitted. Then if you are certain press the [FREEZE] button and obtain a printout using your browser print capability. Application form obtained in this way should be sent, together with required documents , to

Other
aspects you need to know:
If you need to send additional material following your application( e.g. if your are
still studying, you are required to submit the grade reports or if you made application to GRE or TOEFL, you need to submit
their score reports ) make sure to use a suitable sized envelope and print your name and program applied for at its upper left
corner.
What to do for follow -up
- Check your status in on-line application using your entry and application codes. If your application is not approved you should contact the Graduate School by one of two means;
- Following your application, if you need to send any additional document, make sure to use an envelope close to or larger than A4 size. Do not forget to print your name and the program you applied for on the upper left corner of the envelop.
- Evaluation procedures are normally complete within one month of the application deadline. In most programs a smaller number of candidates are called for interviews. Please check the news page for interview information and results.
